TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- As Taiwan and Japan occupy key locations in the first island chain, they should work together to build a safe and stable "non-red" supply chain, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) told a visiting delegation of Taiwan-China experts from Japan on Monday.
The six-member delegation, headed by University of Tokyo researcher Matsuda Yasuhiro, was in Taiwan to exchange views, per CNA. In his opening remarks, Lin thanked the Japanese government for repeatedly stressing the importance of peace, prosperity, and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
Lin emphasized the importance of closer ties not only with Taiwan's official diplomatic allies but also through trade and technology cooperation with non-allies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. He expressed hope that Taiwan and Japan could deepen collaboration in key areas such as new energy, semiconductors, and AI to strengthen supply chains that exclude China.
Matsuda thanked Lin for facilitating the visit, saying it helped his group expand its understanding of cross-strait relations and Taiwan's diplomacy.
During their stay, the delegation was also scheduled to visit President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), the National Security Council, and the Taiwan-Japan Relations Association, Taiwan's agency responsible for ties with Tokyo.
