Starsound plans to open its new headquarters and music hall by next spring.
Starsound Audio, Inc., a popular production company in Reno, has announced it is relocating to Reno's 4th Street Brewery District.
The move will provide two investments in downtown that expand access to creative and artistic resources.
According to Starsound, they're opening a brand-new flagship warehouse and showroom in the Brewery District, and an indoor venue that will be called Starsound Music Hall, both in 2026.
The showroom will feature a video wall, speaker demo zones, a podcast studio, and recording demo set-ups. Creators will also be able to rehearse, test gear, and produce content on site.
The second investment is a music hall that will assume the music and event operations of The Morris.
This includes an indoor, 350-person capacity historic brick venue that will be branded Starsound Music Hall, and the Backyard at The Morris as well.
The company made the announcement at its 50th anniversary celebration Sunday night.
Owner and President Nick Sorrentino says a big reason for the move is logistics.
"75% of our events take place around Downtown Reno," Sorrentino says. "There's a lot of movement, a lot of trucking. And we wanted to just be closer to what we're doing."
Its current shop is located off of Oddie Boulevard, near Silverada Boulevard.
Sorrentino says a recent music festival helped him believe in the music and arts potential of the Brewery District.
"When Offbeat Music Festival moved down there last year," he said, "we really saw what potential music, arts, and entertainment can bring to the Brewery District. We really thought, 'maybe this is somewhere that could be our home.'"
The complex will bring concerts, community events, weddings, and corporate gatherings with indoor and outdoor flow, according to Starsound.
A retail showcase for new gear will also be featured at the complex.
"We're going to have a community event space that can be used for music, arts, entertainment," Sorrentino said. "People can use it for meetings, and we can even have weddings there."
The owner of The Morris says the Backyard will have a small taste of local history.
"We were able to get a lot of the bricks from the Union Pacific building that was torn down," said Chuck Reilly.
Starsound has been at its Oddie Blvd location for over 40 years. Sorrentino says the hardest part of the move is leaving a historic studio behind.
"This is the history of Reno," he said. "Countless records and albums were recorded down here from the '70s and '80s, and we still have all the two-inch tape in the back. It's so hard to think about leaving such a beautiful space."
Even though its location will be changing by next spring, Starsound's mission won't.
"We are a company for the community," Sorrentino said. "That's Starsound's mission for the last 50 years and for the next 50."
