TRINIDAD, Colo. (KRDO) - A neighbor in Trinidad reported she woke up in the middle of the night to the ground shaking beneath her. Sure enough, the United States Geological Survey, USGS, confirmed a 2.9 magnitude earthquake occurred ten miles north of the city.

According to the USGS, the quake was reported at approximately 2:05 a.m. local time, just 10 miles north of Trinidad, and 6 miles northwest of El Morro in unincorporated Las Animas County.
As far as earthquakes go, this morning's recordings range from "minor" to "minor," meaning the force would have been enough to shake unsecured items, but not enough to knock them off the rack entirely.
This earthquake follows a 3.0 magnitude earthquake reported just north of the Black Forest on October 18, 2025, just last week.
