Members of a Vaughan road safety advocacy group are calling on the city to manage an illegal dumping site in Kleinburg that has reportedly persisted for months.
Photos posted to the "Vaughan Community Road Safety Advocacy Group" on Facebook appear to show a pile of debris consisting of construction waste such as bricks and other litter, including boxes and filled black garbage bags.

The photos were taken on Nov. 18 in the area of Huntington Road north of Nashville Road by Bolton resident Cheryl Rowsell, who says she was on her way to the dentist when she saw the heap of waste.

This wasn't the first time Rowsell noticed the dumping ground, as she had seen it the week before, but initially became aware of the problem through online posts made in June.

Residents alerted the city and by July, according to Rowsell, city staff were sent to clean the pile but "never finished it," leaving it to grow again.
"I have noticed it several times that it continues to be dumped into and then this last recent one, like you can see garbage bags in there now," Rowsell said, adding she has also seen another pile of construction waste nearby on Roe Road.

In an emailed statement, the city acknowledged the second site, noting it has since been cleaned up.

Carmela Anzelmo-Palkowski, another member of the Facebook group, uploaded a photo in a July post presumably of the same heap of waste and wrote that the pile at Huntington and Nashville "is disgusting and not acceptable."
"The Vaughan border to Bolton is not a dumping ground and very dangerous to commuters," the post reads.
The City of Vaughan confirmed it is aware of the site at Huntington Road, but the matter is currently under investigation, so no further comment about the party responsible was made.
The municipality explained a partial courtesy cleanup was carried out in the summer at the site; "however, full removal could not proceed due to jurisdictional matters," adding that it endeavours to expedite cleanup.
No details regarding the jurisdictional matters were provided as the investigation is underway.
Rowsell says the community doesn't know who is responsible for the illegal dumping, but she urges Vaughan to install trail cameras to catch those accountable.

"When you see this, it's disgusting because it's our land, it's our wooded areas and there's animals that live in there ... It makes me feel awful," she said.
Meanwhile, the city is encouraging residents to report littering and illegal dumping on public and private property by calling Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or contacting its email at [email protected].
