CRANE COUNTY - A wrongful death suit has been filed in the 109th Judicial District Court following a two-vehicle crash that killed a total of four individuals including three teenagers and a 48-year-old man.
According to court documents obtained by the Reporter-Telegram, the suit was filed by the plaintiff Eric Carrasco, a representative of one of the deceased teenagers: 16-year-old Nautica Perkins Carrasco. In the petition, Carrasco is seeking a wrongful death claim against two defendants, Southern Power and the estate of Gary Don Liles.
Liles, of Brownfield, was the driver of a 2024 GMC Sierra which was involved in a head-on collision with a 2012 Jeep Wrangler. DPS reports of the crash reported a head-on collision occurred between the two vehicles.
As a result of the crash, the Jeep became fully engulfed in flames, and all occupants of the vehicle were pronounced deceased on the scene. The occupants of the Jeep included 16-year-old Nautica, as well as her twin 18-year-brothers Jackie Lee and Jaden Lewis Perkins.
Liles was airlifted to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, where he later died from his injuries.
Recently, court documents filed from the suit specifically request that the defendants in the case preserve "all records pertaining to cell phone usage, (including voice, text, email and internet) by Gary Don Liles for the time period of 4 p.m. through 8 p.m. Nov. 20, 2024."
The teens involved in the fatal collision were the children of an Ector County Sheriff's Office deputy. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the agency incident report showed the fatal collision occurring at approximately 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, along Farm-to-Market Road 1053, roughly 1.5 miles south of State Highway 329.
