The New York Islanders and their second-round draft pick, forward Daniil Prokhorov, have agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced on Tuesday.
Taken No. 42 overall in June's draft, the 18-year-old is coming off a season with Russian junior side MHK Dynamo St. Petersburg in which he recorded 20 goals in 43 games.
Standing at 6-foot-6 and not done growing, Prokhorov is a power forward who blends raw strength with a plus natural goal-scoring technique that made him a high-upside prospect for general manager Mathieu Darche to consider.
Prokhorov made the move to North America thanks to an opt-out clause in his contract with Dynamo Moscow, a member of Russia's top-flight league, the KHL.
While he will be yet another intriguing young talent to watch at training camp alongside No. 1 overall draft pick Matthew Schaefer and fellow rookies Kashawn Aitcheson and Vitor Eklund, Prokhorov is expected to head to the junior ranks in Canada, where he'll likely spend the 2025-26 season with the OHL's Sarnia Sting.
Regardless, Prokhorov's signing continues what is becoming a developing pipeline of Russian talent for the Islanders. After coming away with Maxim Tsyplakov last season, Darche won the sweepstakes for KHL All-Star forward Maxim Shabanov shortly after the NHL's free agency period began in July.
