Lidl, the discount retailer, has announced a big change for customers when they come to pay for their shipping. The chain which has around 980 stores in the UK is introducing a new payment feature directly into its rewards app, Lidl Plus.
The new feature, Lidl Pay, is a digital wallet and mobile payment service integrated into the Lidl Plus app, allowing customers to make secure, contactless payments at their local Lidl store using just their smartphone.
With a single scan, customers can easily redeem their Lidl Plus coupons and offers and the chain said it offers the assurance that their card information is protected by certified providers using top-tier encryption.
Shyam Unarket, customer relations director at Lidl GB, said: "The integration of payment functionality into the Lidl Plus app represents a step forward in our digital evolution."
He added: "We are committed to investing in technologies that simplify the customer journey and offer greater flexibility in how people shop with us. Whether customers prefer using traditional tills or self-checkouts, we want to ensure that every shopper can choose the experience that best suits them."
Lidl Pay offers a fast, convenient, and secure checkout experience, allowing customers to easily access their Lidl Plus coupons and offers while paying at staffed tills or self-checkout terminals, all through the Lidl Plus app.
According to Lidl: "Lidl Pay is the digital payment wallet within your Lidl Plus app that enables you to pay in Lidl Stores and/or for Lidl E-charging. Using it is very easy: enter your card details in the 'My wallet' section of the app, which you'll find In the 'Account' or 'More' section at the bottom of your screen, activate Lidl Pay to get started. ".
This feature is now accessible for Lidl Plus users. Meanwhile Lidl shoppers have been told they can grab a bargain neatly packaged in a box - but people won't have any idea what's inside until they're at home. All they will know is that the box costs £20 and the items inside them could be worth more than £100.
But, the stock is extremely limited, so people will need to be fast if they want to take advantage of the deal. Shoppers are being told that a total of 1,500 boxes will be available across the UK, according to the discount store's bosses. They will each be loaded with "middle of Lidl treasures".
Every box is a little bit different - packed with a wild mix of the unique, quirky and practical items. Inside could be anything from an Electric Stapler and Nailer (£7.99) and Parkside Insulated Flask (£4.99), to a Breville Ice Coffee Maker (£29.99), Active Cancelling Headphones (£19.99) and many more treats.
All proceeds of the Mystery Boxes will be donated to the NSPCC. Lidl has been asked if customers will be capped on how many boxes they can purchase at once.
Lidl's boxes will include items that have previously been available to pick up in the middle aisle. Shoppers who are interested about what's coming next for the discount supermarket's 'random' aisle, look online ahead of the weekly refreshes that happen in stores every Thursday and Sunday.
There is usually an in-sitore leaflet for shoppers to grab on their way out of the supermarket. For even more details, look online here.
The supermarket is no stranger to a bargain bundle. Earlier this year, shoppers were whipped into a frenzy when the supermarket brought out a beauty bundle with items worth £60 and sold limited-edition boxes online for just £5.
