Nigerian comedian Sabinus says his father only embraced his comedy career after he started making money, revealing that he initially faced strong resistance from home while chasing his passion.
In a candid interview with VJ Adams, Sabinus revealed that his father had always wanted him to study Law, a dream that never materialized despite several attempts to gain admission. Instead, he later pursued Linguistics and Communication Studies at the University of Port Harcourt.
It was during his time on campus that Sabinus discovered his gift for comedy and began creating skits.
He explained that his father was unaware of this new passion until after his graduation.
"After I graduated, my dad never knew I was a comedian because I was hiding it. It was one more year after school that he started seeing me on comedy show posters," Sabinus said, noting that his sisters were the ones who confirmed his comedy work to their father.
This revelation, he recalled, angered his father. "He was very furious. He fumed, 'Which comedy? Stupid business. Look at the boy I sent to become a lawyer,'" Sabinus added.
However, he shared that his father eventually accepted his career choice after he began earning enough to support himself financially, finally giving his blessing as Sabinus' comedy career flourished.

There are many today who remain unfulfilled because their parents discouraged or forced them away from their passions toward paths they decreed, a practice that rarely leads to true career fulfillment.
