Here are changes Southern football made to Terrence Graves' coaching staff entering 2025

Terrence Graves is entering his second season coaching Southern football after leading the program to the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship game a year ago.

While Jackson State beat Southern (8-5, 7-1 SWAC West) 41-13 in the contest, the Jaguars did enjoy a 24-14 victory over Grambling State in the 51st Bayou Classic.

Southern's first season with Graves was a positive one as it reached the SWAC title game for the second time in three years. However, the goal is to bring the championship trophy back to Baton Rouge for the first time since 2013.

To help in that pursuit, he made a few changes to the coaching staff.

Coaching changes

Marcus Bradley, Running Backs Coach: Bradley joins the staff after serving as the running backs coach and walk-on coordinator at Prairie View A&M, which was his first full season as a full-time position coach at the program. He previously was a defensive graduate assistant for Prairie View A&M from 2018-20. The Dallas, Texas native started his coaching career in 2016 at Kansas Wesleyan, where he wrapped up his playing career in 2025.

Fred McNair, Quarterbacks Coach: McNair is entering his second season with the Jaguars but will not remain in his previous position as the tight ends coach. He will now coach the position he played in the Arena Football League from 1993-2001. Before coming to Southern, he was Alcorn State's head coach for eight seasons, finishing with a 48-33 overall record and a 37-17 SWAC record.

Lemuel Stinson, Cornerbacks Coach: Stinson most recently was the defensive coordinator at Worthing High School in Houston, Texas. He was a sixth-round NFL draft pick by the Chicago Bears in the 1988 draft after playing at Texas Tech. The Houston native was a cornerback for the Bears from 1988-1993, finishing with 16 career interceptions in 69 games.

Coaching departures

Willie Totten, Quarterbacks Coach: Totten left Southern after a season to become the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Fort Valley State in Georgia. He played at Mississippi Valley State University alongside NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice and finished his career with 13,128 passing yards and 141 touchdowns. Totten was the head coach at his alma mater for seven seasons.

Sean Wallace, Safeties Coach: Wallace, 52, died in February after a battle with pancreatic cancer. The beloved assistant coach from New Orleans played at Southern, where he had an exceptional career that earned him a place in the program's hall of fame. He was a SWAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Returning coaches

Terrence Graves, Head coach: Graves is entering his second year leading the program after initially serving as the interim coach in 2023, winning the Bayou Classic. The Jaguars went 8-5 overall and 7-1 in the SWAC West in his first season. Graves is a 31-year veteran assistant coach with stops at Southern, Grambling, Mississippi Valley State and Norfolk State.

Mark Frederick, Offensive coordinator and tight ends Coach: Frederick is entering his second season as the offensive coordinator. He was also the running backs coach last year. The Woodville, Mississippi, native is in his third stint with the Jaguars. His last job before returning to Baton Rouge was as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator for Prairie View A&M.

Henry Miller, Defensive coordinator and safeties coach: Miller will be going into his second season with the Jaguars. Before joining Graves' staff, he was the defensive coordinator for four seasons at Prairie View A&M.

Everett Todd, defensive ends and special Teams coach: This will be Todd's second season as an assistant at Southern. He previously spent a season as a defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Texas Southern and was at Grambling State for eight seasons before that.

Damon Nivens, Offensive Line Coach: Nivens is in his second season on Graves' staff. He coached three seasons in the same role at Prairie View A&M

Damarcus Miller, Defensive Line Coach: Miller has been the defensive line coach with the Jaguars since 2023. He is a 2023 Southern University Sports Hall of Fame inductee, helping the team secure three consecutive SWAC Championships and a Black College National Championship.

Quentin Burrell, Wide Receivers Coach: Burrell will enter his second season coaching the wide receivers. He came to Southern after five seasons as an assistant at Grambling State, including two seasons coaching the wide receivers.

Chris Scott, Linebackers Coach: Scott is in his second stint at Southern, his alma mater, after initially joining the staff from 1989-1997. He is a 2018 inductee into the program's hall of fame after becoming the team's all-time leading tackler at linebacker.

Randall Moore, Director of Strength and Conditioning: Moore is going into his second season as the strength and conditioning coach. He held the same position at Hampton and Norfolk State.

Kaleb Williams, Defensive Assistant and Analyst: This will be Williams' third season as a defensive analyst. The Baton Rouge native assists in creating scouting reports for the defense.
