(WJW) -- Billy Joel's wife is thanking fans for their love and support days after her husband announced he's been diagnosed with a rare brain condition affecting his hearing, vision and balance.
In a Monday morning post on her husband's Instagram page, Alexis Roderick Joel shared a family photo and said how grateful they are for the "wonderful care and swift diagnosis we received."
The 76-year-old singer was diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), according to a statement on his website.
NPH is a disorder caused by excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulating in the brain's ventricles. According to the Cleveland Clinic, symptoms often mimic those of dementia but may be treatable if caught early.
"Bill is beloved by so many, and to us, he is a father and husband who is at the center of our world. We are hopeful for his recovery. We look forward to seeing you all in the future," the post said.
Friday, Joel announced the cancellation of all remaining shows on his current tour including a September stop in Cincinnati.
An accompanying statement said the singer is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised not to perform while he recovers.
