The Eagles have announced their initial 53-man roster for the 2025 season.
After 18 training camp practices and three preseason games, the Eagles trimmed their 91-man roster down to 53 players ahead of Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline.
This is not a final 53-man roster because it'll continue to change and evolve throughout the season.
The Eagles had Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Kyle McCord battling for that QB3 job all summer but neither player looked good this preseason. Because of that and because McKee is dealing with an injury, the Eagles on Sunday traded to bring Howell from the Vikings. Whenever McKee's thumb is fully healed, he'll be the No. 2.
Running back (4): Saquon Barkley, Will Shipley, A.J. Dillon, Ben VanSumeren
After his Offensive Player of the Year season, Barkley will likely have a huge workload again in 2025. At least that's the way it looked this summer at training camp. After Barkley, the Eagles kept Shipley and Dillon. VanSumeren made the team as a fullback who offers a lot on special teams.
Receiver (5): A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, John Metchie III, Darius Cooper
The Eagles return their top three receivers from the 2024 Super Bowl season. While Brown and Smith missed some time this training camp, they continue to be one of the best 1-2 punches at receiver in the NFL. And Dotson had a full offseason with the Eagles in 2025 after getting traded to Philly in late August last year. The good story is that Cooper made the team as a UDFA from Tarleton State over former draft pick Ainias Smith.
Tight end (3): Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, Kylen Granson
Goedert and Calcaterra are both back as the top two cornerbacks on the roster again. For much of the offseason, it looked like Goedert would be gone but the veteran will enter his eighth season as the Eagles' starting tight end. The veteran Granson made it as the third tight end.
Offensive line (11): Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, Tyler Steen, Lane Johnson, Fred Johnson, Matt Pryor, Brett Toth, Drew Kendall, Cameron Williams, Trevor Keegan
The Eagles obviously kept their starting five of Mailata, Dickerson, Jurgens, Steen and Johnson. After that, they have Fred Johnson, whom they brought back in a trade on Sunday evening to be their swing tackle. Sixth-round pick Myles Hinton is on IR designated to return, while their other sixth-round pick Cameron Williams made the team.
Defensive tackle (6): Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Moro Ojomo, Ty Robinson, Byron Young, Gabe Hall
The trio of Carter, Davis and Ojomo are projected starters in 2025 and even after losing Milton Williams in free agency, the Eagles are bullish on this group. Ty Robinson is an older fourth-round pick with some promise. And the Eagles went a bit heavy with six defensive tackles, rounding out the group with Young and Hall.
Edge (5): Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, Josh Uche, Azeez Ojulari, Ogbo Okoronkwo
The Eagles are going into this season with Smith and Hunt as their projected starters and the Eagles are excited about them. But this is a position where the Eagles could still look to add, at least before the trade deadline during the season. Okoronkwo splashed in training camp. At 30 years old, he's the oldest player on the defense.
Linebacker (4): Zack Baun, Jihaad Campbell, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Smael Mondon
It looks like the Eagles will go into the 2025 season with Baun and Campbell as their starters. Trotter played well all training camp and didn't do anything to lose that starting job but the Eagles drafted Campbell in the first round and he appears ready. But Trotter and Mondon will provide depth and special teams ability. Nakobe Dean starts the season on the Reserve/PUP list, which means he'll be out at least four games as he continues to rehab from a torn patellar tendon suffered in the playoffs.
Cornerback (6): Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Mac McWilliams, Adoree' Jackson, Kelee Ringo, Jakorian Bennett
The Eagles bring back Mitchell and DeJean for their second NFL seasons as their top cornerbacks -- Mitchell on the outside and DeJean in the slot. After that, the Eagles elected to keep the draft pick McWilliams, along Jackson, Ringo and Bennett, who all competed this training camp.
Safety (4): Reed Blankenship, Sydney Brown, Andrew Mukuba, Tristin McCollum
As he enters his fourth NFL season, Blankenship is the steadying force of the secondary and the leader of the back end of the defense. Either Brown or Mukuba will be the starter next to Blankenship, while McCollum will provide depth and special teams ability.
Specialists (2): Jake Elliott, Braden Mann
During training camp, Hughlett dealt with a neck injury and the Eagles brought in another long snapper. Hughlett healed up but he was released. The Eagles did this a few years ago with Rick Lovato as a way to steal an extra roster spot with the hope to bring the long snapper back.
