The Ministry of Public Security (SSP) is strengthening road safety measures in school zones to protect the physical safety of students, especially girls, boys, and young adults, as well as parents and teaching staff.
Among the measures implemented is the presence of traffic police to prevent double parking, a practice that obstructs traffic and endangers pedestrians during school start and end times.
Likewise, personnel from Road Services and the Traffic Engineering Department held a meeting with families of students from a secondary school located on 50th Street and 41st Street in downtown Mérida, to address their request to increase road safety in the area.
As part of the improvements, new traffic signals will be installed, pedestrian crossings will be painted, and traffic officers will be assigned to supervise compliance with speed limits and traffic order.
Likewise, the SSP will request that the Yucatán Transportation Agency (ATY) strengthen its surveillance of public transportation drivers to ensure they reduce their speed, and that the Mérida City Council's Public Works Department support improving drainage and preventing puddles that could force pedestrians to use the road.
The construction of a new sidewalk in front of the school is also planned for greater student safety.
The Ministry of Public Security urges citizens to respect road signs, speed limits, and school zones, thus contributing to a safe environment for the entire educational community.
With these actions, the SSP reaffirms its commitment to road safety and the protection of Yucatecan children and youth, in coordination with state and municipal institutions.
