The body of Imran Khan, 34, of Bagotstown, East Coast Demerara, was discovered in a vehicle parked at First Street, Mon Repos South, East Coast Demerara, on Friday at around 4:15 p.m.
Police said the black Nissan Bluebird, registration number PWW 946, was found on the south parapet of the roadway. Khan was sitting in the front passenger seat, his head tilted toward the driver's side. No visible signs of violence were observed.
Detectives processed the scene and recovered several personal items from the vehicle. The car has been taken down for further examination and CCTV footage from the area is being examined. Several people were also interviewed as part of the investigation.
A doctor confirmed Khan's death and his body was taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home to await an autopsy.
Speaking to this newspaper, Khan's mother Anita Singh said she learned about her son's death from her friend. She said he struggled with depression for some time after his divorce. Police reportedly informed her that her son's fingers had turned black, indicating he had been dead for some time, and that the burn marks on his stomach may have been caused by exposure to the sun while he was in the car.
His autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
