When it comes to securing a spot on the Jack Della Maddalena vs Islam Makhachev undercard, this UFC contender certainly has the support of the masses.
Months after having his wish to challenge for two-division UFC glory granted, Makhachev finally knows the date on which he will compete for the welterweight title.
Recently, Dana White announced Della Maddalena vs Makhachev for the UFC 322 main event along with a host of other notable fights for the back end of this year.
Before those two collide at Madison Square Garden, a women's super fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Zhang Weili for the flyweight belt will co-headline. Former welterweight champion Leon Edwards is also confirmed for the event.
The card is already looking stacked, and one popular flyweight wants to make the most of the spotlight that will no doubt be on the November 15 pay-per-view.
Charles Johnson has been making waves in the 125-pound division. The former LFA titleholder is among the most active fighters in the promotion and has gained a reputation as a "prospect killer" in recent years.
Johnson knocked out Lone'er Kavanagh just last Saturday at UFC Shanghai, marking his latest memorable underdog triumph inside the Octagon.
Fans have long called for 'InnerG' to be shown more respect and handed bigger assignments in the UFC, and the annual MSG visit may be the perfect opportunity for the organization to finally oblige.
"Would love to fight on this card," Johnson wrote in the comments section of a post announcing the UFC 322 main event on the promotion's official Instagram account.
It did not take long for fans to take notice of Johnson's request and rally behind the No. 13-ranked contender.
Dana White, UFC executive Hunter Campbell, and matchmaker Mick Maynard all received tags from supporters hoping to see Johnson given the opportunity to further rise through the ranks at UFC 322 later this year.
