State NFL roundup: Quinshon Judkins helps Shedeur Sanders win first start

Entering Shedeur Sanders' first start as Cleveland's quarterback on Sunday, the Browns had lost 17 consecutive games with a first-time starter at QB.

But the streak stopped with the fifth-round rookie as Cleveland defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 24-10, with former Pike Road High School star Quinshon Judkins staking the Browns to a 14-0 lead.

Cleveland had to gain only 13 yards for its first touchdown, and Judkins took a direct snap and ran 8 yards for the game's first points with 8:24 left in the first quarter.

Judkins scored again on a 2-yard run with 48 seconds left in the first quarter after Sanders connected with wide receiver Isaiah Bond for a 52-yard gain to the Las Vegas 2-yard line.

Sanders completed 11-of-20 passes for 209 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Sanders was in the lineup after fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel went down with a concussion in the Browns' previous game.

Judkins was among the 27 players from Alabama high schools and colleges (excluding Alabama and Auburn) who got on the field on the 12th Sunday of the NFL's 106 season.

Four other former state players were involved in the Cleveland-Las Vegas game:

Week 12 started on Thursday night, when the Houston Texans defeated the Buffalo Bills 23-19.

Week 12 concludes on Monday, when the Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers square off at 7:15 p.m. CDT at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. ESPN will televise the game.
