In West Texas, it almost feels like state law, keep Blue Bell in the freezer. At Casa Fernandez, it's more than a tradition, it's practically law. Before we head to the grocery store, I check our Blue Bell supply the way some folks check their gas tank. And after supper, is it really dessert if there isn't a scoop of Blue Bell on top?
Straight from the oven and onto freezer shelves, Blue Bell's new Classic Pecan Pie Ice Cream has arrived in Texas grocery stores. The new flavor is made with brown sugar ice cream loaded with roasted pecans, flaky pie crust pieces, and swirls of pecan pie filling.
"Our new flavor combines your favorite ice cream with everything you enjoy in a pecan pie," said John Neal Robinson, general sales manager for Blue Bell. "Pecans, pie crust pieces, and yes, even a pecan pie filling swirl, all surrounded by a brown sugar ice cream, did we miss anything? There is no need for pie and ice cream when you can now have both in a carton of our Classic Pecan Pie Ice Cream."
Classic Pecan Pie is available now in half-gallon and pint sizes, but only for a limited time.
If you ask me, Blue Bell couldn't have picked a flavor closer to home. West Texas is pecan country, from the shelling houses scattered across the Big Country to the endless pies served at Sunday dinner tables. Add in the fact that most restaurants around here can't resist topping dessert with a scoop of vanilla, and you'll see why this feels like a flavor designed with Texans in mind. Pecan pie is even the official state pie of Texas.
I'll admit, I've had plenty of favorites over the years. One of them is Cinnamon Twist Vanilla, which I always order at a local burger joint here in Abilene. The problem is, I'm not the only one, that flavor always runs out first. That tells me I'm in good company. But now, I may have a new contender for my number one spot with this pecan pie masterpiece.
Also worth noting, after a decade away, Homemade in the Shade Ice Cream is back in stores. It's a swirl of rich chocolate fudge sauce folded into Blue Bell's Homemade Vanilla. And in just a few weeks, expect fall and holiday favorites like Spiced Pumpkin Pecan, Peppermint, Peppermint Bark, and the beloved Christmas Cookies flavor.
I'll keep you up to date on every new flavor, right here and on the radio. With friends like Farron Bell and Jerry Don Black keeping me in the loop, I can promise: this holiday season is going to be sweet.

So, grab a carton while you can, because in Texas, Blue Bell flavors don't sit on the shelves for very long.
