Entire Scottish village invited to Vienna to prove city "is not dull

AN ENTIRE Scottish village has been invited to the city of Vienna in a marketing ploy by the city's tourism board.

The village of Dull, Perthshire has been invited by officials from the Austrian capital to show the world that "Vienna is not dull".

The city's reputation reportedly comes from some visitors feeling that it lacks the excitement of cities in neighbouring countries such as Budapest, Hungary.

Paired with Boring, Oregon, Dull has a population of approximately 100 people, with each household being hand-delivered an invitation from the Vienna Tourist Board.

These were wax-sealed and came with Viennese goodie bags - with residents unable to travel still receiving a gift on their doorstep.

The city's marketing strategy is an attempt to question whether the city suffers from a reputation of being bland, with "who better to judge" than the Perthshire residents.

Guests will stay at the Hotel Imperial, a five-star luxury hotel that has in the past hosted Queen Elizabeth II and The Rolling Stones.

Additionally, visitors from Dull will receive a tailor-made itinerary based on their interests, including activities such as visits to the Vienna State Opera, attendance at the Vienna Ball of Sciences, and a tour of Schönbrunn Palace, among others.

Dance classes and special Viennese dining experiences will also be on offer, as well as a potential meeting with the UK ambassador to Austria.

Norbert Kettner, CEO of the Vienna Tourist Board, hopes the initiative will bring more of the world to Vienna during the winter months.

He said: "We're proud of our museums, our concerts, our balls and our winter magic - but we also enjoy a good sense of humour.

"January is often considered the dullest month of the calendar, which is exactly why we wanted to bring Dull to Vienna.

"It's the perfect opportunity to show how vibrant this season can truly be. We hope many residents will join us, and we're eager to hear their expert judgement."
