WASHINGTON (TNND) -- Secretary of War Pete Hegseth posted about fighting narcoterrorists using the classic Franklin children's books.
"Franklin the Turtle" is a book series for children written by Canadian writer Paulette Bourgeois.
Last week, Hegseth posted a picture of Franklin the turtle with a gun shooting at a boat that had narcoterrorists on it. The image is titled "Franklin Targets Narco Terrorists."
The author of the book, Bourgeois, has not responded to a request for comment.
California Democratic Rep. Sara Jacobs over the weekend quote tweeted Hegseth's post with her own version of the picture and instead had it read "Franklin is a war criminal."
U.S. Southern Command has conducted multiple military strikes in the Caribbean against alleged narco terrorists. At least 21 strikes have been reported on such vessels.
U.S. Southern Command has confirmed on social media that intelligence found that the vessels struck were involved in illicit narcotics smuggling and carrying narcotics.
It was reported in October that the CIA has been given more authority to conduct lethal operations in Venezuela. The goal is reportedly to get Venezuelan President Maduro out of power. Last month, President Donald Trump also hinted at possible military action against Venezuela, saying he isn't ruling out sending in troops on the ground.
