BOISE, Idaho -- Boise Airport's expansion project now has Colorado construction management company Hensel Phelps at the helm.
The airport recently unveiled new dining and retail options to serve travelers coming through the Treasure Valley. Those options include local and national dining choices. But this is just one section of the travel hub's expansion plan.
The City of Boise approved a contract for up to $700 million through 2029. Projects within that agreement include a larger system to handle passenger baggage, up to 10 new gates in Concourse A and a central utility plant for the heating, cooling and electrical needs of the terminal. The airport now has an expanded security checkpoint and new parking garages. A rental car center is currently under construction.
The airport's expansion project began in 2019 as Boise grew into a metropolitan hub, and traffic through the airport increased exponentially. Passenger traffic has increased by 81% in the past 10 years. The airport served nearly 5 million passengers in 2024, according to a news release by the city. These projects are in response to that increased demand.
The framework of the agreement means that no taxpayer dollars will be used for construction, and the airport can commission projects as funding becomes available.
