Real Madrid will look to add another piece of silverware to their sparkling 2024 when they take on Liga MX side Pachuca in the inaugural FIFA Intercontinental Cup final.
The tournament, which has staged its closing matches in Qatar this week, effectively replaces the FIFA Club World Cup, which will now take place in an expanded 32-team format next summer.
The name is taken from the old annual showdown between the champions of Europe and South America staged between 1960 and 2004.
Madrid won that competition three times in 1960, 1998 and 2002, losing the 1966 and 2000 finals. Liga MX side Pachuca denied us the traditional feel of a UEFA vs. CONMEBOL matchup by soundly beating Copa Libertadores winners Botafogo 3-0.
