KUCHING (Sept 12): The much-anticipated Padawan Raft Safari will return this Oct 5, promising another thrilling river adventure along Sungai Sarawak Kiri.

Organised by the Padawan Municipal Council, the annual eco-adventure event will see participants navigating rafts and kayaks through a series of scenic villages, highlighting the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Padawan region.

For the second year running, STM Lottery Sdn Bhd has contributed RM3,000 as a sponsor.

The cheque was presented by its Sarawak regional assistant manager Henry Liew to Padawan Municipal Council chairman Tan Kai during a brief ceremony yesterday.

In a statement, STM Lottery general manager (Communications and Sustainability) Giam Say Khoon said the company was pleased to continue its support.

"The Padawan Raft Safari is not only a celebration of adventure and sportsmanship, but also an important platform to promote eco-tourism and strengthen community ties.

"STM Lottery is honoured to be part of this meaningful initiative for the second year in a row," he said.

Other than community sponsorship, he said STM Lottery is also actively supporting other corporate social responsibility initiatives such as charitable donations, volunteering programmes, environmental conservation events.

Based on previous news reports, this year's Padawan Raft Safari will start at various points including Kampung Annah Rais, Kampung Timurang, Kampung Danu, and Kampung Semadang, with all routes finishing at Kampung Git.

The event, now part of the Borneo Raft Safari series, aims to promote rafting culture and eco-tourism while supporting the local economy through homestays, cultural activities, and community tourism.
