Wildfire smoke from a massive fire burning in Canada has moved into eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, causing hazy skies and air quality issues. Omaha's Weather Leader has deemed Sunday an "impact" day for area smoke. The Douglas County Health Department has issued an air quality alert for sensitive groups in the Omaha-metro on Sunday. Sensitive groups include those with lung disease, asthma, older adults and young children. As of Saturday morning, haze could be seen in the sky throughout the region, but air quality remained "good" for most areas. Northerly winds will help push more near-surface smoke into the Omaha-area Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Air quality could drop to "unhealthy for sensitive groups," at times. Those who are especially sensitive to smoke should limit time outdoors as air quality drops over the weekend, or use N-95 or P-100 masks to negate the effects of the increased surface smoke.
