Sriracha, Thailand - A 40-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run accident early yesterday morning when a white sedan collided with her motorcycle on the Kilometer 9 Road, near the Tukcom intersection in the Surasak Subdistrict. CCTV footage captured the shocking moment the car, speeding, struck the motorcycle rider from behind, causing the rider to crash fatally. Instead of stopping to assist, the driver fled the scene, pausing only briefly to urinate 200 meters away before escaping.
The accident occurred around 6:00 AM, and was responded to emergency staff from the Sawang Prateep Sriracha Rescue Unit, paramedics from the "Lanthom" ambulance service of Somdet Phra Boromrajthevi Hospital, and Police Lieutenant Colonel Suchart Charoensri, an investigator from Sriracha Police Station. At the scene, authorities found a maroon Yamaha Spark Nano motorcycle overturned on the roadside. The victim, identified as Ms. Jatuporn Banyattinopparat, a 40-year-old employee at the Sriracha District Office, was found unconscious with severe head injuries and heavy bleeding. Despite 20 minutes of CPR by rescue teams, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Debris and a license plate from the offending vehicle were found nearby. Witnesses reported that Ms. Jatuporn was a regular customer at a nearby food stall, typically accompanied by her 70-year-old mother. Fortunately, she was alone on this occasion, potentially sparing further tragedy.
CCTV footage revealed the white Vios sedan overtaking and striking the motorcycle rider, causing it to skid off the road. The driver then fled without stopping. Ms. Chanoknan Phrompool, a 50-year-old food vendor and eyewitness, told The Pattaya News that Ms. Jatuporn had just purchased food and was riding back towards the market when the sedan, traveling at high speed, crashed into her. A customer who followed the fleeing car reported seeing the unidentified male driver stop near the St. Paul intersection to urinate, appearing intoxicated and showing no concern for the victim.
Police have documented the scene and are using the sedan's license plate to track down the driver, who will face legal action for the hit-and-run.
