Gillespie sixth in women's omnium in Chile

World champion Lara Gillespie was unable to add to her medal haul after finishing sixth in the women's omnium at the Track World Championships in Chile.

The Carlow rider, who won gold in the elimination race earlier this week, was eighth after the scratch race and finished ninth in the tempo race - moving her to sixth overall. She stayed in sixth despite slipping to 11th in the elimination race before finishing in a final position of sixth after the points race having been on the wheel of the leaders heading into the final lap.

The event was won by Lorena Wiebes of the Netherlands with Marion Borras (France) second and Amalie Dideriksen (Denmark) taking bronze.

Four more Irish cyclists will be in action on Saturday in the penultimate day of action at the championships.

Aoife O'Brien competes in the 1km time-trial at 3pm, Fiona Mangan is in individual pursuit action at 5.25pm and Erin Creighton and Emma Jeffers go off in the Madison at 10.12pm.
