Patrick Mahomes just did something he's never done in his career. But it's not a good thing

Sunday was historic for Patrick Mahomes - but not in the way he'd like.

For the first time since being drafted in 2017, the Kansas City Chiefs have lost three straight games started by the three-time Super Bowl MVP.

Mahomes' latest loss came in a Super Bowl rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium, 20-17. The Chiefs lost Super Bowl LIX to the Eagles back in February (40-22) and in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil (27-21).

In a matchup that was much more defensive than maybe anticipated, Mahomes threw for 187 yards on just 16 of 29 completions, with one touchdown and one pick that came off a Travis Kelce bobble deep into Eagles territory.

He also ran for 66 yards on seven tries and a score, but Kansas City dropped to 0-2 after not recovering an onside kick and Philadelphia running out the clock.

The loss also makes it the first time Mahomes has started a season 0-2 since his high school days.

It's not often that Mahomes is on the wrong side of history, but the Chiefs are clearly trending in the wrong direction.

Between Xavier Worthy's injury, Travis Kelce's age and the defense regressing, the start of this season hasn't gone according to plan for Kansas City.

The Chiefs haven't started 0-2 since 2014, which was also the last time they missed the postseason - and the only time under head coach Andy Reid. Quarterback Alex Smith still led that team to a 9-7 record, marking the last time the franchise didn't reach 10 wins in a season.
