I don't know about the rest of you, but I have been quietly rooting for Vanderbilt football this season. The program, which doesn't have a great history of success, is winning at a high level under coach Clark Lea, who is in his fifth season in charge at his alma mater.

The specialists at Vandy just gave everyone another reason to root for the school. On Saturday, the Commodores are hosting ESPN's "College GameDay" for its matchup against Missouri,

This year, ESPN announcer Pat McAfee is offering big bucks to students in a kicking contest. Make a long field goal and they earn cash. Lots of it.

According to a story in The Athletic, Vanderbilt specialists held a kicking clinic for students this week, hoping to help someone win a bundle You will have to tune into the show Saturday morning to see if it paid off.

No surprise, the clinic was the brainchild of Vanderbilt's student newspaper, the Hustler.

The teams kicker Brock Taylor and punter Nick Haberer showed the students the basics.

Whether the student kick is a success or not doesn't really matter. Vanderbilt has already won with more positive publicity during a 6-1 season.

By the way, I would have no chance to hit the field goal. Though I did once make an extra point at Memorial Stadium. When nobody was there. Only took three tries.
