Live weather updates: Areas north of Sioux Falls could see 2-4 inches of snow

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Sioux Falls has stated the winter system Tuesday has shifted more south overnight, building confidence that a band of heavier snowfall up to 4 inches or more between Interstate 90 and state highway 14 may be possible throughout the day.

Winter weather advisories have already been issued to the north and west of Minnehaha County until at least 6 p.m. Tuesday, the NWS states. Those areas include Beadle, Jerauld, Sanborn, Brule, Aurora and Davison counties. Two to 4 inches of snow is possible for those areas, with some isolated areas where snowfall could be 5 inches or more, the advisory stated.

"Plan on slippery road conditions," the advisory read. "The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes."

Peak snowfall for the entire area is expected to be between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m."Models continue to wobble and the track could yet still shift north or south," the NWS stated.

South of I-90, a dusting to 2 inches of snow is possible.

As of 6:30 a.m., the NWS predicted snowfall rates will be highest during the day, but is expected to taper off after 3 p.m. as the system moves into Minnesota.
