Developed and published by ChillyRoom, Loulan: The Cursed Sand was revealed yesterday to the excitement of many gamers. The action RPG takes place along the Silk Road and features stylistic elements taken from regions that the trade route would have passed through. The interesting concept and setting have inspired many fans of the genre, fueled further by the heavy amount of gameplay shown off in the reveal trailer.
The game follows the journey of a fallen royal guard who had been exiled and cursed to live as a skeletal being with control over sand known as The Cursed Sand. His goal is to traverse western China in the kingdom of Loulan to find his beloved princess. The trailer shows him chained before breaking free and fighting his way through monsters and skeletons while his love calls out to him. One opponent, a winged spear fighter, even manages to seemingly defeat The Cursed Sand, prompting them to remember a promise.
Apart from the setting and design, the gameplay presented in the trailer has also stuck out to many fans. The reveal trailer itself has already garnered much attention compared to other new reveals, with comments siting the game's top-down camera and fluid combat for their excitement. The game is built on encounters with multiple opponents at once. The different enemy compositions and terrain will make each fight unique, preparing players for larger battles with bosses and elite enemies. In order to face these foes, players are given a wide array of sand-based abilities. In the trailer, the main character can be seen transforming into sand to dash forward or using the sand as a blade or projectile.
Although the game has no released date yet, the reveal trailer does assure gamers that it is coming soon. Loulan: The Cursed Sand is planned to be released for both PlayStation 5 and Steam.
