'Love Is Blind' Star Lauren's Ex Reportedly Reveals Himself on Instagram
While Katy Perry said she wanted to feel "liberated" with her controversial blonde pixie cut from 2017, her hairdresser revealed the real reason that she went so short with her locks.
"I burnt her hair off," Justin Anderson told close pal Kristin Cavallari during her "Let's Be Honest" podcast on Tuesday, May 20.
"Katy was trying to go blonde so she had gone to somebody else, and they couldn't quite get it there," the famed colorist, 44, said, adding that Katy, 40, was trying to go from her jet-black tresses to platinum blonde, which is "virtually impossible."
"So, when she came to me, they had been bleaching it over and over, and her hair was crisp. So, I told her, 'Katy, your hair will break off if we do anything to it.' But she was like, 'Let's just push it,'" Justin continued.
"I do a full head of foils, and I use, like, the most gentle bleach that you can use. As I got to the top of her head, all of the foils on her head just started falling out," he shared.
"It was so bad. Because that's when she got the blonde pixie cut, that really short pixie cut," Justin said of the look Katy debuted in March 2017. He called her failed hair bleaching, "the worst experience for a hairdresser to ever deal with."
The "Firework" singer first revealed that she was going blonde during the Golden Globe Awards in January 2017, debuting a shoulder-length bob. Katy and now-fiancé Orlando Bloom announced their split the following month and the California native shared her pixie cut makeover in March 2017. The couple got back together the following year.
Katy shared a video of the ultra-short style on Instagram at the time, writing, "So happy," about her "Michelle Williams-inspired" cut. She credited stylist to the stars Chris McMillan for the chop and Justin for the coloring.
In a second post showing off the look, Katy wrote in the caption, "I wasn't ready until now." The video showed her asking, "What do you think, Chris?" while touching her short platinum locks.
"I love it, are you kidding? I've been wanting to do this ever since the day I met you, do you remember?" Jennifer Aniston's longtime stylist replied, before Katy added, "I remember, I wasn't ready."
At the time, the sides were shaved into a buzz cut while Chris left some length on top. Shortly after unveiling the look, Katy had those tresses chopped off for a full-on pixie cut.
In June 2017, Katy livestreamed her life in a promotion for her album Witness. During the 72-hour stunt, the "Teenage Dream" singer discussed why she cut her hair.
"People talk about my hair, right? And they don't like it, or they wish that it was longer. I so badly want to be Katheryn Hudson [Katy's real name] that I don't even want to look like Katy Perry anymore sometimes, and that is a little bit of why I cut my hair," she told therapist Siri Sat Nam Singh.
Two months later, Katy told Byrdie that she was "trying to redefine what beauty means to me" without her longtime longer locks.
"Now, I can't hide behind it. I wanted to know that I could still feel beautiful and love myself without it," she told the outlet in August 2017 about her hair. "It's fun, it's freeing, it's liberating, and I don't think that 'sexiness' and 'femininity' is just one thing -- long hair. I suppose the goal is to redefine what femininity means to me."
