FOXBOROUGH - Washington star receiver Terry McLaurin has asked to be traded.
Might the Patriots kick the tires should the Commanders grant McLaurin's wish? And do the same if the Cowboys decide to peddle Parsons?
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel was asked the question at his media session Friday night ahead of the season-ticket holders in-stadium scrimmage.
And he did the usual coaching dodge.
"I'm not going to comment on players that are under contract on other times. Let's focus on the ones that are here, that we're working with," Vrabel said. "We see all these things happen in the National Football League whether it's the offseason, or before the season starts.
"Everybody's working with different situations with respective players and respective teams will focus on their situations. And we'll focus on ours."
As a follow-up, Vrabel was asked about the $60 million in cap space the Patriots own - tops in the league - and how he views having that level of flexibility.
Vrabel's answer didn't necessarily close the door on making a trade for McLaurin, for instance, but that's not where his priority is at the moment.
"It's just, if something were to present itself, we would be able to do some things," Vrabel said. "Right now we're focused on the roster that we have.
"I think we tried to be as close to the plan as we could, going through free agency and then having to allocate it over the next two years counting this year and next year when we look at the cap going out of the two years."
Asked how much urgency Vrabel felt to win this year - another way to try and gage the level of interest in McLaurin or Parsons - and if he might be willing to part with a high draft pick, the Patriots coach also didn't take that bait.
"We can talk about a million different things," he said. "Let's just focus on ... we should feel the urgency to win every day that we come to work. Let that be the focus of the question."
