Strathaven Beer Festival set to return for second year - Daily Record

Strathaven Beer Festival is set to return in 2026 following a successful event this May.

And things are "heating up" for the second year, as organisers reintroduce the Strathaven Chilli Eating competition.

That's after they teamed up with Theo Giameos and his team at town favourite, Roasted Cafe.

Over 1100 revellers descended on the town's George Allan Park for the inaugural event this year, with feedback "overwhelmingly positive".

Now beer lovers can mark Saturday, May 2, in their 2026 diary as the date for the event's return, where organisers hope it won't just be the chilli that's hot.

Fraser Wilson from the festival told Lanarkshire Live: "We can't wait to bring back the event to George Allan Park next year.

"We had fantastic fun organising the festival and we've been overwhelmed with the response from punters, traders and the wider-community.

"For the most, we rode our luck with the weather, with it being sunny in parts even. But around 3.20pm there was an hour of pretty miserable rain and most people ran for cover, with a few calling it a day.

"Hopefully for 2026 we can bank some sunshine and warmth for a fantastic community celebration."

The chilli eating competition was a previous favourite at the Strathaven Gala Day celebrations, with competitors trying to eat as many bowls of chilli as possible within a time limit.

Money raised from entry fees was then distributed to charities and not-for-profit organisations in the area.

However, due to the Covid pandemic, the competition fell by the wayside - now the beer festival team are bringing back the popular challenge with help from the team at Roasted.

Theo from the eatery told us: "The first Strathaven Beer Festival at George Allan Park was an epic success.

"So, see next year, let's create the Roasted Beef Chilli Eating Contest with proceeds going to charity."

The one-day beer festival will again showcase some of Scotland's best craft brewers and drinks brands, which will be supported by lip-smacking street food, kids' entertainment and fantastic live music.

Organisers of the event were keen to ensure the event was something that benefited the local community on the day and after - that saw them donate money to Climate Action Strathaven, Avondale Radio, and the Strathaven Balloon Festival committee following the event.

Where possible, they also included local producers, vendors and service providers in setting up the event.

Details of ticket sales for the Saturday, May 2, event will be announced in the coming weeks.

To stay up to date with what's happening for the event, make sure and follow the festival on Facebook and Instagram.
