The Canadiens were able to topple the Buffalo Sabres on Monday thanks to a great effort from many of the young players in the lineup, including Lane Hutson. Oliver Kapanen scored his fourth goal of the year, while Juraj Slafkovsky scored his third via a great pass by Noah Dobson.
Speaking of Slafkovsky, he's in the midst of fixing one of his biggest issues, his incredibly low shot rate. On top of shooting more often, Slafkovsky is hitting everything in site, and he's doing a good job finding time and space in high-danger scoring areas.
Slafkovsky was being interviewed as the Blue Jays punched their ticket to the World Series by beating the Mariners 4-3 in Game 7 of the ALCS. The reaction from the Canadiens players was perfect. Remember, it's perfectly fine to cheer for a team from Toronto, as long as it's the only Canadian team in the league.
Back to Hutson for a moment. We all know he's been great, but he's verging on historic when it comes to his ability to set up his teammates with great assists.
Even though Nick Suzuki has not enjoyed great luck in the shooting department, he's off to yet another fantastic start to the year. As per usual, he's the engine that powers Montreal's success.
