BOA Builders has been recognized nationally for its commitment to innovation and sustainability, earning the Energy and Environmental Building Alliance (EEBA) Award for Best Custom Home Under 2,500 Square Feet.
The winning home, located at 2745 Storm Avenue in the Shadow Mesa subdivision, was named the top zero-energy certified home in the nation.
Of the roughly 900,000 homes built nationwide each year, only about one percent achieve zero-energy certification. BOA's entry stood out for its craftsmanship, efficiency and affordability.
"Our goal is to make net-zero, sustainable homes affordable for everyone," said Wendi Gechter, co-owner of BOA Builders. "It's about building for the future without pricing people out of homeownership."
BOA homes are designed with scientific precision, evaluating every component from foundation and framing to insulation, HVAC and water systems. The award-winning home produces as much energy as it consumes and even powers an electric vehicle with solar energy.
"We've been building all-electric homes for the past two years," Gechter said. "They're cleaner, healthier and have no gas emissions."
BOA Builders has now completed 58 DOE Zero Energy Ready-certified homes, the first of their kind in Mesa County.
Innovation, Gechter said, comes with challenges. The company introduced new technologies like the Rheia duct system, requiring local trade partners to learn new installation methods. "Our team and partners have been amazing. They're learning and growing with us," she said.
For Gechter, the mission goes beyond energy efficiency. It's about creating homes that support healthier living. "We built a home for a family whose son had asthma," she said. "They wanted a clean, comfortable environment, and that's exactly what these homes provide."
Looking ahead, BOA Builders is launching Chipeta Hollows, a 55+ luxury, all-electric community featuring 88 homes, a resort-style clubhouse, pool, pickleball court and community gardens. The homes range from 1,450 to 4,000 square feet, starting around $450,000.
"We're excited to bring the same high-performance standards to this community," Gechter said. "It's all about healthy, sustainable living."
As technology continues to evolve, BOA Builders plans to stay ahead with 3D design tools, smart home integration and energy-efficient innovation.
"You won't find a healthier home to live in," said sales and marketing director Adam Korte. "These houses are tight, clean, and comfortable, like walking into an oasis."
