I will be receiving a large sum of money in the near future (well over 100,000 CAD) which I would like to transfer to Sweden, where I live. Naïvely I would assume that a bank transfer is the best option (better than carrying a briefcase full of pennies, for example). However, a friend who uses Wise (formerly TransferWise) suggests using them instead.
I have to admit that I am a bit skeptical. It sounds a bit "disrupt-y" and tech-bro-ish; while the concept seems simple enough, I genuinely have a hard time understanding both how they can be better in any way for me, as well as, you know, making money.
On average I would probably not care too much, but the amount of money is significant enough that a difference in fees and exchange rates will likely add up to a non-trivial amount of money in the end.
So two questions(ish):
* Am I right to be skeptical of wise?
* More importantly, what is the best way to make this transfer?
(Please note that this is not a question about taxation, etc. etc. etc. Please assume I have all that sorted out)
