Hockey wins fourth of last five over LIU - ExBulletin

Philadelphia, PA - The Explorers played their final home game at Ellen Vagelos Field on Sunday, a 4-2 victory over LIU, marking their fourth win in their last five games. La Salle outscored its opponents 13-4 in that stretch. Junior Matilda Diedreichsen led the way, scoring her third and fourth goals of the season in the first half, giving the Explorers a lead they would not relinquish.

Diedrichsen found the back of the cage for the first time in the 15th minute before LIU responded early in the second period. In the final seconds of the first half, Diedrichsen stole the ball away from the Sharks defense and fired a shot over Emma Capparelli's head to regain the lead.

After half time juniors extended the lead to 3-1 with her sixth goal of the season. The Sharks closed the deficit midway through the fourth, but freshman sealed the victory with a late score off an assist from .

Junior made six saves in the cage for La Salle, defeating LIU 20-17 and earning a narrow 8-7 edge in corner kicks. With the win, the Explorers improved to 7-9 on the season. With two regular season games remaining, the Explorers are still in the thick of the race for the Atlantic 10 Championship.
