Srinagar, Aug 29: In a significant step towards curbing cyber frauds and protecting mobile users from increasing cases of scam calls and SMSs, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has urged citizens to make use of the Sanchar Saathi portal and mobile app.
The initiative, launched under the Digital India program, empowers citizens to safeguard themselves from fraudulent communications by providing an easy-to-use platform for reporting suspicious calls and messages.
According to officials, cybercriminals are increasingly using phone calls and SMSs to lure citizens into financial frauds, identity theft, and other malicious activities. The Sanchar Saathi portal (www.sancharsaathi.gov.in) and its mobile application are designed to create a safer digital ecosystem by enabling real-time reporting and swift action against such activities.
"The fight against cyber frauds requires active participation from citizens. By reporting scam calls and SMSs through the Sanchar Saathi app or portal, every individual becomes a part of the national effort to curb cybercrime," a DoT spokesperson said.
The portal allows users to report fraudulent calls and SMSs with just a few clicks. Besides, it allows to track and block mobile connections obtained using fake or forged documents. It also delivers the function to check the number of mobile connections issued in their name and helps authorities identify and disconnect numbers involved in fraudulent activities. To make reporting even easier, the government has launched the Sanchar Saathi mobile app, now available for download on both Android and iOS platforms.
Cybersecurity experts have welcomed the move, highlighting that citizen reporting will strengthen law enforcement's ability to crack down on fraudsters who exploit telecom services for illegal activities. With cyber frauds on the rise, the government has urged every mobile user to download the app, stay vigilant, and report any suspicious communication without delay. Citizens are encouraged to visit the Sanchar Saathi portal at www.sancharsaathi.gov.in and download the app today to help build a secure and fraud-free digital India.
