Demonstrators will still take part in march against asylum seeker camp plans

Demonstrators will march as planned from a proposed migrant camp in Sussex despite reported delays to the scheme.

Sceptical campaigners say they will carry on until the plan to move 540 men into the Crowborough training camp is abandoned.

It comes after the Home Office said while it was still "continuing to accelerate plans" to move asylum seekers to the Crowborough military base it would wait until it was "fully operational and safe".

Buses were expected to start arriving in Crowborough with asylum seekers within days.

Kim Bailey of campaign group Crowborough Shield said: "Although never officially informed of the day, the migrants will be moved in.

"The level of building work continuing to take place at the camp does not suggest any sort of delay."

The group has raised money to fund a legal challenge against the plan and Ms Bailey said the group will continue to challenge the Home Office's decision.

"We still hope that the Home Office will see this unsafe plan for what it is and stop wasting millions of taxpayers money and allow Crowborough to return to its peaceful way of life," said Ms Bailey.

This weekend's march, the fourth to take place in Crowborough, will go ahead on Sunday morning.

"We are furious at the level of illegal migrants and asylum hotels," a spokesman for the Home Office said.

"Moving to large military sites is an important part of our reforms to tackle illegal migration and the pull factors that make the UK an attractive destination.

"We are continuing to accelerate plans to move people into Crowborough and Cameron Barracks, when the sites are fully operational and safe.

"We will not replicate the mistakes of the past where rushed plans have led to unsafe and chaotic situations that impacts the local community."
