Gloversville, NY (WRGB) -- Firefighters from Gloversville and Johnstown responded to a structure fire at 45 S. Main St. in Gloversville at 5:36 PM on Thursday. Battalion Chief Mike Putnam reported finding a working fire upon arrival and requested additional support.

Firefighters rescued a dog from a second-floor apartment where the fire had started in a bedroom. They then worked to extinguish the main body of the fire. Meanwhile, Johnstown firefighters Jeff Palkovich and Sam Caruso searched the floor above the fire, finding an occupant attempting to escape the heavy smoke. They escorted the individual to safety via the fire escape.

In total, firefighters rescued three cats, two dogs, and one occupant from the building. The dog from the apartment where the fire originated was resuscitated by Lake Valley medics.

No injuries were reported, and damage was confined to the apartment of origin.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Gloversville Fire Department and Gloversville Police Department. The response was supported by the Fulton County Fire Coordinator's Office, Lake Valley EMS, and National Grid. All units returned to service by 7:11 PM.
