Intel Core Ultra 5 235HX Outperforms Core i5 14500HX in Benchmarks

Intel's upcoming mobile processor has posted impressive benchmark scores. The Core Ultra 5 235HX, part of the Arrow Lake-HX series, was tested in PassMark. Its single-core performance surprisingly beat last generation's flagship mobile chip.

This early data suggests a major performance leap for high-end laptops. The results point to significant gains for Intel's next-generation architecture.

The Core Ultra 5 235HX is an enthusiast-grade mobile processor. It features 14 cores but lacks hyper-threading technology. Despite this, its performance in synthetic tests is remarkably strong.

According to PassMark data, the chip achieved a single-core score of 4,708 points. Its multi-core result was an equally impressive 40,122 points. These numbers represent a substantial uplift over its direct predecessor.

The chip outperforms the Core i5-14500HX by a wide margin. The generational improvement is approximately 30% in single-core tasks. The multi-core performance saw an even larger jump of 38%.

This performance also challenges higher-end chips from the previous generation. The 235HX's scores are notably close to those of the 20-core Core i7-14700HX. This indicates a major architectural efficiency improvement for Intel.

The benchmark results place the new Intel chip in a strong position. Its single-core score even surpasses that of the flagship Core i9-14900HX by about 11%. It trails the i9 in multi-core performance by a similar margin.

The processor also competes favorably with AMD's new offerings. It holds a slight single-core performance lead over the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and Ryzen 9 9955HX3D. This raw performance is crucial for productivity applications.

It is important to note that these are synthetic benchmarks. Real-world gaming performance depends on various other factors. AMD's X3D chips with their 3D V-Cache still maintain a significant advantage in many games.

Nonetheless, the raw power of the Arrow Lake-HX series looks promising. It could become the new standard for performance-minded mobile workstations. Intel appears to have made genuine strides with this new architecture.
