Matt Crooks on laying down Hull City marker, Oli McBurnie's likes and Liam Millar's comeback - Hull Live

Matt Crooks has returned to the Hull City fold after injury and played a hugely important role on Tuesday night as the Tigers saw off Leicester City in style.

Sergej Jakirovic's men made it three wins on the spin, and they now have the chance to make it four when Charlton Athletic visit the MKM Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The third game in a hectic week after an international break is always a difficult affair, but on the back of that display in midweek, City will be confident.

Ahead of the visit of the South London outfit, Hull Live sat down with Matt Crooks to talk about his return from injury, Liam Millar's impact and that lucky escape at St Andrew's last weekend....

"It's Joffy's fault, he played it behind me, so then I tried to slow down, and Millar was behind me wasn't he, so I just thought I'd leave it for him.

"Yeah, give him his moment, he deserves it, but in all seriousness, delighted for Liam, obviously, he's had a really hard time being out for that long.

"I know he's found it difficult at times, and I spoke to him on numerous occasions about it, but hopefully things are looking up for him now, for us, and for Canada as well.

"Yeah, it's brilliant (Millar's goal). It's so tough coming back from an injury, being out for that long, it must have been really tough for him, and he's been great since he's come in.

"I think the staff have taken the time with him, the physios have really looked after him, the gaffer and the coaching staff have taken their time with him, and he seems to have hit the ground running as soon as he's come back in.

"He was really good against Birmingham and then first start on Tuesday night, and I thought it looked throughout the game, got a bit tired at the end, and was complaining.

"I thought he was complaining because he was coming off, but then I realised he was complaining because he'd not come off, but no, yeah, I'm delighted for him, so are all the lads."

"It was annoying, I'd worked hard in the off-season and then pre-season to get back fit, as fit as I could, and I felt in a good place, I was finding the rhythm. These things happen. It's one of those things, I just got my head down in the physio room and ready to have a chance when it came back."

"They're a really good football team, Leicester, have come down from the Prem. We spoke as a group before the game in the changing room about trying to see where we stand within the league. We knew that Leicester would be up there at the end of the season, so it kind of gave us a chance to gauge ourselves and if we want to do anything this season, we'd have to put a marker down and kind of prove that we can play against the opposition, the likes of Leicester. I thought we did that, especially in the first half. Obviously, the game's always going to change after the half-time break.

"It'd been nice to come out and play a similar style in the second half, but football's not really like that. They came out fighting, and it was backs to the wall a bit towards the end, but we did it, and we've shown that we can perform in different ways, playing with the ball and then without the ball as well. I guess you can control the game in two ways, it's with it and without it, and I thought we did that pretty well throughout the game."

"It's a good squad. We've got some really good players. It's exciting at the minute. We've won three games on the bounce. If you don't get excited at times like this, then what's the point? You don't get too high, don't get too low and all that, and I totally understand that, but at the same time, it's a sport, isn't it?

"You've got to enjoy the good times because there are always bad times coming as well. I think the lads are enjoying it, we're all enjoying it, trying to keep our feet on the ground, but at the same time enjoying the momentum that we've got and performances that we're putting in and winning games of football."

"I think home form was obviously a big problem last year. Coming halfway through, I know I've been told all about it, but we seem to have turned that around this year. It's something that we need to continue to do.

"We've got our first away win as well at Birmingham, so if we want to do anything like I said, we need to win games away from home and at our gaff, but it's going well so far.

"Like I've said to the lads, just, just enjoy it. Go enjoy your life. Enjoy the games. We're in such a privileged position to be playing at the level we are, and when you're winning games, it's 10 times the fact that you're being a professional footballer and enjoying it at the same time.

"It's a great group of lads. We've got cliques almost, but they all come together cos we're different ages. Like, I found out the other day that Oli Mac was a Facebook friend.

"That's pretty deep, though, isn't it, if you're a Facebook friend? It's a proper friend that isn't it, if you're Facebook mates? I've known Oli a long time, and it's just nice. We've got different levels of experience, different ages, but it's a good group. He (McBurnie) liked one of my posts, and I was like, are we Facebook friends? It's proper that."

"I don't know how I got away with that one, to be honest. (I was thinking) I've done it again. I tried to get out of the way, but I'm just too big. Fortunately for us and for me, the ref got it wrong, so we take it, rough with the smooth.

"You need to make your own luck, and then when luck comes your way, you've got to take advantage of it. It's football, it's timing, it's moments, like I said, a little bit of luck, it's a little bit of everything. We're just enjoying it now and focusing on the next game, which is Charlton."

"It's like a play-off clash already, it's early days, but it'll be a good game, I'm sure, and they'll be right up for it, so we've got to bring our energy again like we did the other night.

"They've done a really good job, coming up from the league below. I've done it myself a couple of times, and sometimes it can be quite a big jump.

"He (Nathan Joens) seems to have got them playing in a certain way that suits their style, and it's worked and it's effective, and I'm sure it'll be an interesting game. I know they'll be right up for it. A Nathan Jones team usually so it'll be fun."
