2-year-old allegedly tests positive for fentanyl  - Mother charged

Zinnia Health compiled a list of 10 documentary films and docuseries that explore the opioid epidemic.

The Orangeburg Department of Public Safety claims a 2-year-old tested positive for fentanyl. His mother's now facing criminal charges.

Destiny Raiquanna Keitt, 23, of 500 Fletcher Street is charged with one count each of unlawful conduct toward a child and simple possession of marijuana.

Keitt called police to her St. Paul apartment at 4 p.m. Dec. 7.

She allegedly told officers that she didn't have her 2-year-old in her sight for about 10 minutes as she prepared a bath, according to the incident report.

A friend told her that her 2-year-old son would not wake up.

She went to her son and saw his eyes "rolled back in his head" with labored breathing, the report states.

She told police she tried to wake her son for 10 minutes before she called them.

Officers allegedly discovered "signs of marijuana being smoked in the home," the report states.

An officer wrote, "I observed several empty cigar packs with an ashtray in Ms. Keitt's bed that contained partial marijuana cigarettes. There was also burn marks on the headrest of the bed."

Keitt denied having any narcotics in the apartment.

There were several people going in and out of the apartment when officers arrived, the report states.

Orangeburg County EMS took the 2-year-old to MUSC Health-Orangeburg.

The toddler became alert after first responders administered Narcan, the report states.

The toddler received further treatment at Prisma Health Richland in Columbia, according to the report.

The Orangeburg Department of Public Safety charged Keitt on Aug. 27.

If Keitt is convicted, she faces a court fine and up to 10 years in prison.
