Pub in 'charming' County Durham village has price slashed by £100,000 after month

A Grade II listed hotel in the "charming" village of Bowes has had its price slashed by £100,000 after a month on the market.

The Ancient Unicorn Inn, located in Barnard Castle, was initially listed at £750,000 in September.

However, an updated listing on RightMove now shows the price sitting at £650,000.

The 14-bedroom hotel, also a fully licensed wedding venue, has been put up for sale as its current owners are moving abroad.

The property features a bar, restaurant, a village shop, and a two-bedroom owner's accommodation.

It also boasts outdoor seating and a landscaped courtyard.

Christie & Co, the estate agents handling the sale, note that the hotel sits in a 'picturesque location' between the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

They said: "Guests are drawn to its unique features, relaxed atmosphere, and multifunctional offering making it popular with couples, tourists, and locals alike."

The hotel's wedding licence has just been renewed for another five years.

Christie & Co added: "The venue was once a highly sought after wedding venue, but the licence expired and the current owners have just had it granted again in preparation for the sale to any new owner, providing even more value for the new owners."

The hotel's letting accommodation includes 14 high-quality rooms, each refurbished to a high standard.

The property also includes a spacious, private two-bedroom apartment, bathroom, and living room which could be converted into an additional income-generating guest suite.

The hotel has a cobbled courtyard with garden seating and off-street parking for guests and staff.

The sale also includes a parcel of land to the rear of the hotel, with planning permission for a ten-bedroom hotel extension and two five-bedroom residential dwellings.

Christie & Co said: "Whether looking to expand the hotel's footprint, create a leisure park, or build homes, this sale offers multiple lucrative exit strategies."
